Mayor Hardwick Swears in New Police Recruits

IMG_0064_thum.jpg

Mayor Andrew Hardwick had the honor of swearing-in Freeport’s
new class of police recruits during a brief ceremony in the Village
Trustees Boardroom on Jan. 15, a few days before they entered the Nassau County Police Academy. As four of the five new recruits present held up their right hands and took the oath to protect and
serve, family members and friends looked on proudly and snapped
photographs. Pictured above with Mayor Hardwick (from left
 to right), they are: Brian Barry, a graduate of Kellenberg Memo-
rial High School and Farmingdale University; Alan L. Moreno, a
 Chaminade High School and Adelphi University alum;
John F.
Florio
, a graduate of Oceanside High School and SUNY Albany
and a former sergeant with the New York City Police Department;
 and Samantha Sepulveda, a Freeport High School and the Uni-
versity of Massachusetts alum. The fifth recruit, Joseph China, a
 Kellenberg Memorial High School and SUNY Albany grad and
former NYPD officer, was unable to attend. On Jan. 25, the
five -- all Freeport residents --were introduced to the public at
their formal swearing-in during the Village Board of Trustees
meeting. After graduating from the police academy, they will join the Freeport Police Department, bringing the force to 88 officers.
