On December 3, 2019, the Freeport Police arrested Akbar Roger’s. Mr. Roger’s was wanted for an outstanding warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation and was sought in connection with physical harassment and numerous violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

The arrest stems from an October 13, 2019 complaint in which Mr. Rogers pushed a 35-year-old victim to the ground, causing multiple injuries. Mr. Rogers fled the scene.

Thereafter, and on November 3, 2019, Mr. Rogers was observed in a white Mercedes. A chase ensued and Mr. Rogers, driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, drove into oncoming traffic, went through multiple stop signs, and red lights. Due to the speed of the pursuit and manner in which Mr. Rogers was driving, and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Village residents, the pursuit was terminated.

Freeport Police tried numerous times to contact Mr. Rogers and spoke to multiple family members (including Mr. Rogers) in the hopes that he would surrender himself. He refused to do so.

On December 3, 2019, Officers noticed Mr. Rogers at his home, attempted to stop him, and he fled on foot from the officers. The foot pursuit went through residential neighborhoods and backyards. Upon catching up with Mr. Rogers, he refused multiple requests to surrender, kept reaching for his waistband, and the officers, in order to protect themselves and the members of the community, wrestled Mr. Rogers to the ground.  While he continued to resist arrest, Freeport Police were ultimately able to place Mr. Rogers into custody.
