Freeport Resident,
To comply with a Federal mandate, the Village of Freeport is in the process of updating our Hazard Mitigation Plan. Plans need to be updated every five years and Freeport is due for an update this year. Members of the Mitigation Planning Committee include the village board, all village department heads as well as local businessmen and residents.
FEMA provides guidance on how state and local governments should engage in hazard mitigation planning to identify risks and vulnerabilities associated with natural disasters and develop long-term strategies for protecting people and property from future hazard events. FEMA requires that each state and local governments develop and adopt hazard mitigation plans as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for grants.
One of the requirements is that the Village receive input from our residents during the planning process. In the past we held a public meeting at the Recreation Center. However, this year with COVID-19 that is not possible. We have instead decided to use an online survey to collect information. If you are a Freeport Resident and wish to help, please fill out the survey on the link below.
Thank You
Freeport Mitigation Planning Committee
