COVID-19 Update:
Dear Neighbor,
Freeport has reduced the COVID – 19 police responses from approximately 20 per day to currently 2 calls in past 14 days
Nassau County has reported 38 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, while hospitalizations have dropped to 81, with 28 patients in the ICU, and 12 on ventilators. Six patients were discharged in the last day. Unfortunately there were 3 deaths. Daily results for Thursday showed Long Island’s residents testing positive at 0.7%, up from .6% on Wednesday.
Currently, gatherings are limited to 10 people or less. Governor Cuomo announced that when the Long Island region enters Phase 3, the gathering limit will increase to up to 25 people. At this time, houses of worship can open with 25% capacity with strict social distancing measures in place, and masks must be worn at all times.
Freeport continues to accept outside dining applications and insurance certificates from restaurants to be reviewed and sent to the NYS liquor authority for approval.
Statewide guidelines have been recently released for various activities and businesses. Guidelines can be found on the NY Forward website under "Statewide Guidelines": NY Forward - Statewide Guidelines .
Such guidelines include, but are not limited to, Child Care and Day Camps (day camps can reopen on June 26th), Lake and Ocean Beaches, Religious and Funeral Services, Racing Activities, Dentistry (which includes orthodontics), Auto Racing Professional Sports Training Facilities, and Public Transportation
The LIRR has introduced a new smartphone app called TrainTime. The app allows customers to track in real time where seats are available on LIRR trains, to help riders maintain social distancing. Other features of the app include: translations into Chinese and Spanish; Push notifications for track assignments; Trip Share capabilities; and real-time train location updates. This use of technology is a good idea; however, we will have to see if it works as advertised. In the meantime, it seems like it is worth giving a try.
The app is available for free through the App Store or Google Play. http://www.mta.info/press-release/lirr/long-island-rail-road-unveils-first-north-america-traintime-app-capacity-tracker
A Happy belated Juneteenth! Juneteenth or “Jubilee Day” commemorates the day that enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their emancipation by the United States Army, after the defeat of the Confederacy. It is the oldest celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads and Grandfathers that celebrated this past Sunday!
