The Village Attorney serves as the Chief legal representative of the Village and provides legal advice to the Mayor, Village Board of Trustees, and all departments.
Duties
The Village Attorney:
- Attends all Village Board meetings to advise on legal issues and questions
- Represents the Village in all legal proceedings
- Prepares legal opinions
- Advises officials of changes to State or Federal laws affecting operations
In addition, the Village Attorney prepares and reviews various legal documents, including:
- Contracts
- Dedications of right-of-way
- Deeds
- Easements
- Intergovernmental agreements
- Leases
- Ordinances
- Resolutions
Furthermore, the Village Attorney and/or his deputies oversee the prosecution of all violations of the Village code and certain charges under the vehicle and traffic law of the State of New York.
